Ballance you Ostomy and Life Well

It is really started to cool down outside.  This means that my life is about to get a whole lot better. It doesn't even matter that I have a stoma, I freaking love the outdoors and will never let an injury or something that saved my life stop me from enjoying life. I’ve always been one to enjoy recreational activities in life, ranging from going to music festivals to hiking in national parks and simply swimming along in a huge pool on vacation. I enjoy anything that’s relaxing, anything that makes you feel very comfortable with yourself and in tune with your surroundings. Too often a lot of our everyday activities can activate stressors in our bodies and minds, which causes us to disconnect from our surroundings and those we’re always around. You must take charge of your life or it will simply pass you by and you will regret it.

Now, with that all in mind, you need to do things that are positive and beneficial to your life.  That’s why I find it extremely important to find what you love doing, what you enjoy more than anything else, in order to keep a balance in your emotions and thoughts of your daily life. At times, we get carried away with work and what’s needed the next day at work. We forget that our families matter more than a stupid 20 dollar bonus.  Or that we could eat healthier if we left 20 minutes earlier and didn't stay late.  Or other times, we’re putting off some chores because we don’t want to work after our workday is over, so we end up being lazy and doing something that triggers our dopamine centers.

But with work and life and family we all end up with issues.  That is just part of being human dn sometimes those are involved in our own health and have to do with our stomas.  And that’s how all humans are, really. We get stressed from everyday events that we see all the time and we want something new, something exciting and unheard of, something that brings us joy. And that’s ultimately what we seek, right? So why not do it?

So this is why it is so cool that our health industry is so good.  Luckily, they can with advances in their ostomy supplies. You wouldn’t believe it if I told you, but their skin barrier adhesive systems are so advanced that they can swim a few hours a day and the system is waterproof and airtight. They’re built to handle such conditions, after all. So it only makes sense that they would’ve been engineered in a way that allowed for the least disruption possible to daily activities, and that would be bathing in this instance.

Whether that’s with their bodies or minds, can still be cared for and not have to worry about the small tasks becoming a big deal at all. That’s how it should be for every human alive, and I think we’re making great leaps towards that sort of accessibility for everyone. If only we could get more minds to think like this, there would be even more change for the better. I suppose it’s just a matter of spreading a good message.  Just be positive and enjoy life.

Are you insane to enjoy the outdoors with an ostomy bag?

People always think those who are more outdoorsy are a bit crazy.  I am totally fine being put in the category because I love being outside....
